This webquest focuses on helping learners develop awareness and understanding of cultural differences between countries,
and their importance
in international relations, notably in business and trade.
To achieve this target learners will complete a series of varied closed tasks, including matching and gap-fill exercises, quizzes, etc, but also more challenging open tasks
involving the four main skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing),
most of which are communication-based and involve researching and
treating information to produce language.
Learners
will first be confronted with the issue of cultural stereotypes,
discussing their origin and their impact (step 1). They will, then,
move on to realise the importance of being culturally savvy when doing
overseas business (step 2). Next they will be entrusted with the task
of assisting managers by providing support and advice in their business
trips abroad, as they will play the part of a cross cultural expert
(step 3). Ultimately they will choose one country they want to
specialise in and will design a multiple-choice quiz to test their
friends' knowledge of its culture (step 4).
